Olusegun Isaac ALATISE MB.ChB (Ife), M.Sc, FWACS, FMCS

Senior Lecturer – Obafemi Awolowo University/Consultant Surgical Gastroenterologist and Oncologist – Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile-Ife.

Dr Alatise qualified from the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Nigeria in 2000 and completed his internship at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife. He had his basic and specialist surgical training at Obafemi Awolowo University after completed his one year National Youth Service at State Specialist Hospital, Sokoto. He was appointed Lecturer at OAU in 2006. He was appointed Consultant Surgeon at OAUTHC in 2007. He had his surgical oncology training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York. On International Council of Coloproctology grant, he had further training in colorectal surgery at John Hopkin’s University Hospital, Maryland; Cleveland Clinic, Ohio and University of Chicago, Illinois. He had his basic and advanced endoscopy training at Cairo Training Center, Cairo and Surgical Gastrointestinal Centre, Mansuara all in Egypt having been sponsored by African Middle East Gastroenterology and Endoscopy. Dr Alatise is currently the Assistant Secretary General of Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology of Nigeria and also an external examiner to College of Medicine, University of Sierra Leone.

Alongside with Dr Kingham, Dr Alatise started two prospective study on colorectal cancer and rectal bleeding as a surrogate maker for colorectal cancer. This research effort is being sponsored by National Cancer institute, Surgeon OverSea and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. They also established African Colorectal Cancer Group with a vision to have a National tissue and data bank for Colorectal Cancer in Nigeria. They are also setting up infrastructure for clinical trial in colorectal cancer.

Dr Alatise has published over 60 peer review articles in international and national journals. He is a speaker in many international and national meetings. He is a trainer in surgical endoscopy to surgeons, physician and nurses.
