Dr. Cristian Herrera is Chilean, born in the city of San Fernando. He holds an MD from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UC), an MBA from the University of Chile, and an MSc Public Policy and Administration from the London School of Economics and Political Science. In 2010-2011 worked as primary care physician and as advisor in the Department of Primary Healthcare of the Municipality of Santiago and was member of the Committee of Health Experts of the Chilean Association of Municipalities.

From 2012 till present he is Associate Researcher at the Department of Public Health of the UC and until early 2014 was the Executive Secretary of the National Cancer Forum (a public-private project of research and advocacy related with cancer policy in Chile). Between early 2014 and early 2015 was Advisor of the Minister of Health of Chile.

Currently he is Head of the Department of Strategic Development at the Cabinet of the Minister in the Ministry of Health, Chile. His main areas of  interest are cancer policy, health policy/politics and systems, health financing, evidence informed health policy making, and global health.
